The Santa Fe Railroad operated in Oakdale and interchanged freight with the Sierra Railroad on the interchange tracks in Sierra Yard. Santa Fe freight trains came from Riverbank with the cars for interchange.
Santa Fe model railroad operations on my layout include the Riverbank Turn. This freight train is led by a diesel and enters Sierra Yard with its train. The locomotive will uncouple from its train, turn around on the wye track and head back to the interchange track. When the outbound cars for the Riverbank Turn are ready, the caboose is tacked onto the back of it and the locomotive recouples to its train. Once cleared, the Riverbank Turn departs Oakdale.
The Riverbank Turn will leave the layout through a hole in the backdrop and enter a single track staging yard representing the city of Riverbank.
As of right now, the Riverbank Turn has no industry switching work to be done in Oakdale. I am considering adding a scrapyard facility served by a spur off of the Santa Fe trackage. If I do install this industry, the Riverbank Turn will have work to do in Oakdale other than interchange cars with the Sierra Railroad.
